After posting the above, I just noticed that if I pause before and after a text macro, that Dictate seems to get it correctly and is able to catch up. The reason quotes were working is because I was pausing after the open quote and before the end quote. There may still be some additional tricks.

Hi everybody:

I've been trying to create a text macro that will type “Career Crafting” within a sentence. I've been able to create a text macro that types this phrase with this capitalization at the beginning of the paragraph but unfortunately, Dictate will not do this in the middle of the sentence. The tech support person I spoke to was not particularly helpful so I'm hoping that some of the brilliant minds here will have a suggestion for me that works.

Similarly, I'd like to have other text macros such as “The Promise Game”. I was just able to dictate that and have it come out correctly as long as I inserted the quotes with my voice. I'm convinced there must be a simple way of creating text macros that do this.

All help is appreciated!

Sincerely,
Howard

I listed Pages as an application not to expand text in. This only partially solved the problem. I did go to Pages preferences and note that most of the corrections there has been unchecked. So, there was no interference from pages.

I then closed type it for me. After dictating several paragraphs including this note, there has been no occurrences. I like that little program, and depended on it a lot. I suppose it will be less of a problem if I dictate nearly 100% of my text. With the great recognition this version seems to have, that may cease to be an issue.

Maybe Nuance and Dragon did a good job on this one.

Hi Everyone:

I just discovered in the past 2 days the conflict between Dragon Dictate and typit4me. This was quite disappointing since I have over 300 snippets of text and use abbreviations all day long. One thing that I did notice is that a very old version of typeit4me, I believe it is around 3.2, does not seem to cause the inverted letters with Dictate.

I discovered this quite innocently when I was using typeit4me 3.x along with Dictate and having no problems at all except that I could not edit my snippets in Snow Leopard. I decided to upgrade to the latest typeit4m, version 5.02, and this is when I got the inverted letters... very weird.

So, my conclusion is that it MAY be possible to work with typeit4me 3.x and Dictate at the same time and just do your editing with 5.x when needed. The downside of this is that Typeit4me 3.x does seem to cause some issues with the system prefs application but if you do not attempt to access the pref pane, it may be possible to avoid this.

I'd love to hear from others who have any experience with this. You can download 3.x via a googl search. I really hope that Riccardo fixes this in Typeit4me because they are both awesome apps that need to be able to get along with one another.

Sincerely,
Howard

You may experience odd results, such as inverted letters, when using Dictate with text helper apps like QuicKeys, TextExpander, Typinator, etc. We recommend that users of Dragon Dictate turn off these helper applications, as well as any similar features (such as "auto-complete") inside of applications.

Neaf, as far as I know from following this Forum topic for some time the answer is "no." The best I've seen so far — and what I do myself — is simply turn that software off before I start dictating a document. Not very satisfying, but that seems to be where things have stood for quite a long time.

I wonder if Dragon Dictate has found a way around this problem. Any Dragon Dictate users care to respond about this issue?

Ah, the disappearing text macro. If you go back and dictate it again after having restarted the program (though it seems sometimes, the computer), it will reproduce it on command. If you still have trouble look for any high ACII characters in your text. I have a number of text macros functioning perfectly (well, except for the Fonts).

Same experience. I did what it said in the manual - name in the Command Name box, text to type in the Text box. Go back to Dictation Mode, say the name - nothing happens. Also, sometimes this puts Dictate in a state where it won't take dictation, even though it hears commands like Go to Sleep and Wake Up.

I have not been successful at all in creating text macro commands. I attempted to create a simple text macro using the phrase "FreedomRocks". I entered the words Freedom Rocks and placed the desired text in the text macro result field. on seeing this command, dictate does nothing. All help is appreciated

There's a joke somewhere about my headset already being attached to a drip... but I'm trying not to make it :)

With the text macros, just inserting plain text without the ability to get the macro to do stuff like moving the cursor or use variables isn't really enough. Would it be possible to interface Dictate with one of the existing programs like TextExpander or TypeIt4U? They do mucho fancy text macros which would save having to reinvent the wheel with respect to many things...

Text Macros are available in Dictate 1.0. Find out more in the MacSpeech Dictate User Manual on page 31.

Text Macros put whatever is in the Text area of the Command window at the insertion point whenever the command’s name is spoken. They can have an unlimited amount of text in them.

Text Macros work almost like any other command — you speak the command name to invoke the macro. Instead of executing an action, however, a Text Macro enters pre-defined text at the insertion point in the active document. Like with dictation, MacSpeech Dictate doesn’t care where the insertion point is. It can be in a word processing document, a cell in a spreadsheet, using the text tool of a graphics program, or even the name of a file in the Finder.

Text Macros are great for form letters, email signatures, starting a letter – just about anything you need to type frequently.

After that, I should have enough energy to make my own coffee.
