I was just speaking on Skype to a colleague and now I'm dictating into this web browser.
I don't seem to have any problem switching back and forth between Skype and dictate.
510935 is my version of Skype. Dragon Dictate is 2.0 .3
what versions are you using?

This is realllyyyyy annoying – almost a deal killer. I upgraded from Mac Speech Dictate thinking they'd have it solved.

I use skype all day. And it's really coming down to having to abandon one of the two because restarting Dragon EVERY TIME is RIDICULOUS.

Reloading the profile doesn't work at all. I've now got close to $300 into this application and it is essentially useless to me.

Not really. When you disconnect a microphone dictate disables your profile. To reengage Dictate open your profile and reactivate. You may also have to make changes to your system preference sound file.

Is it possible to get Dragon Dictate to 'discover' a USB headset/mic after it has been unplugged and plugged back in? Skype and Google Voice are able to take input from the mic after the system preferences are reset to the headset as the input device, but Dragon has to be closed and restarted (which takes about 1.5 minutes on my system).

Hi sjmm, can you share your Applescript with us?
I am trying to write a similar script at the moment, and it's driving me nuts. I want to be able to dictate into the Note Pad (or another TextEdit window) at, say, 36 point size type, and then have a script that will convert this to 12 point and paste it into another word processing document. It should be easy - but it's not! How did you do it?

I can confirm that MacSpeech Dictate 1.3 doesn't help here. I am still unable to edit or make corrections in our hospital's electronic medical record (EPIC), even after using the Cache Document and Cache Selection commands. EPIC apparently has a fairly large install base, so it might be worth your time to look into compatibility. We access it via Citrix.

MacSpeech Dictate 1.3 may help here. The Cache Document and Cache Selection commands in 1.3 are designed to learn existing text, and to work outside of Dictate's Note Pad.

It's good to know what application(s) you're using, too. That's helpful to compare.

I've managed to deal with this for now by using Applescript to take my dictated text from Dictate's Note Pad and copy it into the specific part of our electronic medical record. It's nice now that the script works with a single voice command, but a bit of a pain to write the script. I guarantee none of my other colleagues would give this program the time of day because of the need to do this type of extra scripting to bring it to where it should be in terms of ease of use.

It is incredibly frustrating to not be able to dictate directly into our hospital's electronic medical record without MacSpeech Dictate completely freaking out if any corrections are needed. It also inserts random characters such as an "A" or "x" at the end of sentences. I know all of the documentation talks about MacSpeech Dictate needing to know the location of the cursor in the document - buy why? This design (flaw) totally limits the usefulness of this product and my ability to be efficient with it. I very strongly suggest - maybe for 2.0 - that you figure out how to get Dictate to interact with text in all windows - like Dragon Naturally Speaking. Being tied to the Dictate note pad is lame.
