    I love the product, but I'm trying to do a bit more than the basic commands and wondering if anybody has found a way to get a hard copy of the manual (short of copying the whole 176 page pdf available online)? I'm happy to pay for it, but don't see a way to order one? Also. it's hard to keep flipping between the online manual and the Dictate program? Am I just that "unintuitive" in my approach or is anyone else having the same trouble. Thanks--erdr1

  2. Hello. Unfortunately we do not sell a hard copy of the manual. What I have heard other customers do, however, is upload the pdf file to FedEx/Kinkos and have it printed and bound there. I did this myself, and it was incredibly helpful to have. Hope that helps!

    Printing the manual is a great idea, but, I don't understand when you say its "hard to flip between manual and Dictate". For me, DD manual displays in Acrobat with bookmarks, page images, and search features. Also, the contents are linked for easy access to the section desired. Admittedly, I am using a full version of Acrobat so the features and display may be different with Reader only.

    I do not know what these people are talking about. Dragon Dictate is one of the worst pieces of software I have ever purchased. The software does not work. Customer service is non existent. You can't get a hold of anyone either by phone or email. The forum is full of posts that do not seem to be addressed by anyone. This page talks about an owners manual for Mac that is nowhere to be found.

    Time to ask for a refund.

    @Amalux -

    I understand from your other post that you are having trouble getting started with DD and can share your frustration about Nuance's apparent disconnection from its customer's needs. I am lucky enough to own the German version of DD which has "just call if you get into trouble" customer support, which I indeed needed at the beginning, despite being a tech-savvy person.

    Still, putting DD into the "worst pieces of software" category doesn't do it justice. Sure, it has a hoard of quirks that it shouldn't and Nuance doesn't appear to have a significant interest in fixing those quirks, but nonetheless DD can (when it's in the mood) be highly useful software. I was quite happy with it until the bugs in DD 2.5 started negating the benefits.

    By the way, the user manual is in the Help menu.

    While on the subject of DD's shortcomings and the German version, I would like to reiterate (in case anyone from Nuance happens to be listening) the need for faster profile switching. I would like to use DD for dictating in English (roughly 90% of what I type) and in German (roughly 10% of what I type). However, since profile switching is so darn slow, I only use DD in English despite its ability to recognize German.

    Amalux, I work with a lot of Mac software, and I can say with confidence that DD is not the worst piece of software ever made. DD 2.5 is a lot more stable that all prior versions of MacSpeech Dictate.

    If you're running into problems with DD, I suggest you let us know what Mac hardware you're using, and maybe also do a video screen recording of DD on your Mac to show what problems you're experiencing.

    I'm not saying that DD is perfect, but I now use it to write most of articles, mainly because my typing is so slow (40wpm) and spend a lot of time hitting the delete/backspace button. Wile DD has its problems, it doesn't misspell words and it types three to four times faster than I do.

    Nuance has shown their commitment to improving this application. Hopefully Apple also has plans to integrate speech to text technology within OS X.

    Again, let us know specific problems you're experiencing. I don't work for Nuance, but I'd be willing to assist you, because I think DD can be a useful program for people who don't like doing a lot of hand typing.

    This is the DD workbook, which is good:

    And the DD Manual can be found on this page:

    Click on User Guide on the right side of the page.
