I have been asking the same question since Nuance took over the forum. I am still waiting for an answer! I am beginning to believe that they do not want DD users to have this function available, but are trying to force us to contact Nuance Support and then pay for assistance.

I have also often asked myself why there is no search function here like most comparable forums from professional firms have.

It looks like the engine behind this forum is BBpress. I use BBpress for my forum, and I can assure you the stock configuration includes searching. What good is a forum where you can't search?
Also, while it allows you to enter tags for your post, there's no place to look for tags.
I don't think there's any need to get conspiratorial about it; I imagine that polishing the forum layout is a low priority. Disappointing, nonetheless.

Considering that Nuance made no effort to even upgrade their flagship NaturallySpeaking forum, the odds of them adding features to this forum seems highly unlikely as it would be a 1st. Nuance used to have a forum for every product they sold but they have gradually terminated all of their forums, with the exception of this one.
Hopefully the Mac forum will NOT go by the way of other Nuance forums but we will be prepared for that possible scenario as we are adding the finishing touches to a new DragonDictate forum which already includes several Search options, a member profile section, specialized formatting, colors, embedded pictures, attachments, the ability for members to e-mail & instant message other members, Live Chat, blogging, a specialized section to download DragonDictate macros & user guides, signature tags and a host of other modern FuseTalk forum conveniences. This forum’s functionality is a bit limited in that regard.
http://www.knowbrainer.com/PubForum/ is currently the world's most popular speech recognition forum collection and although a lot of Mac Speech/DragonDictate questions have come up, we've never had a proper dedicated DragonDictate forum which was poor planning on our part. Within the next few weeks we will roll out the new DragonDictate forum which is intended to supplement rather than replace this forum. It's nice to have options… and the new forum will always be on the lookout for recommendations. The new DragonDictate forum will always welcome opposing viewpoints but will not tolerate personal attacks or fraudulent behavior.

KnowBrainer -
Thanks for the offer, but I don't see why DragonDictate users should look anywhere else for answers. Considering that you yourself have often stated in these forums that you do not use DragonDictate on a regular basis (something that is often blatantly apparent from your comments), that your primary interest in this forum is financial (see link below) and that you abuse the forums for advertising, I have no interest in a forum run by you.

You do not tolerate personal attacks in forums? Then why is it that so many users have complained about __your__ behavior in these forums?

>>> Thanks for the offer, but I don't see why DragonDictate users should look anywhere else for answers. <<<
Perhaps you missed the 10 reasons we listed in our previous post. We will cover them in a little more detail:
1. Every forum Nuance previously hosted has eventually been retired. That means this 1 could be on the chopping block. No one knows for sure.
2. The new DragonDictate forum features several search options while anyone looking for an answer on this forum will literally have to repost their question unless it was asked recently.
3. A member profile section so that you won't have to ask someone, posting a question, how much RAM they have, what they're using for a sound card, microphone, processor, OS etc. A proper profile can eliminate unnecessary back-and-forth questions and deliver a qualified answer that much sooner. It saves everyone time.
4. Specialized formatting makes postings clear by allowing you to underline, bold, resize fonts, add colors etc.
5. Several easy to contact forum moderators. How long does it take you to get an answer from the forum moderator here?
6. You've no doubt heard a picture paints 1000 words. The current KnowBrainer Speech Recognition Forum is full of JPEGs that can either be attached or included within the post. It's 1 thing to list step-by-step instructions but quite another to give a pictorial on the process. Click this link http://www.knowbrainer.com/PubForum/index.cfm?page=viewForumTopic&topicId=7829&listFull#59044D69-BC33-F5C0-53FDAB7B494B22E9thread75187 and scroll up and down the thread to see an example of what we mean by special formatting, colors and embedded JPEG's. It's like comparing black-and-white television to HD color. Once you've grown accustomed to it… Well you get the idea
7. The benefits of members being able to e-mail other members shouldn't need explaining
8. The benefits of instant messaging probably doesn't need explaining
9. A specialized download section for downloading DragonDictate macros, user guides etc.
10. The ability to create a customized signature tag which you might use to publicize your computer setup or credentials
Our primary interest in this forum is moving speech recognition forward and one-way to do that would be to promote the ideal hardware. Please don't shoot the messenger…
>>> I have no interest in a forum run by you <<<
We get that you have taken a personal dislike to us but again, our forum will be open to those who don't have a personal ax to grind. However, the new forum will NOT be run by me personally. Most of the forum moderators will be independent speech recognition specialists from around the world. In fact, we are still looking for a DragonDictate moderator. Interested? Our company has donated over $20,000 for the development of the new forum and paying to host it. Although we will not be “running” the new forum, we will be volunteering our support as we do here.
>>> You do not tolerate personal attacks in forums? Then why is it that so many users have complained about __your__ behavior in these forums? <<<
Unfortunately, this forum DOES tolerate that type of behavior but the new DragonDictate forum will not. Most of the time, it's easy to prevent or at least diffuse personal attacks and feuding. You usually just have to intervene early but that requires a responsible moderator. Unfortunately, Nuance avoids moderating forums like the plague because there is no profit in it. This is 1 of the main reasons why Nuance retired all of their previous forums and another reason why this forum should have a backup plan. You may not be aware of this but the federal government makes any forum host or owner responsible for anything that is viewable by the public. For example, if someone uses foul language on a forum that doesn't remove the profanity in a timely manner, they are now subject to steep federal fines and that responsibility has become a showstopper for many manufacturers. That's why there are now fewer user groups and forums. Hosting the forum has become a major responsibility and this is the primary reason why Nuance has disbanded all of their other forums.
