Updating issue

    I bought dictate autumn 2008 . I have not used it for a year, went to open it up on my now upgraded mac (snow lep) and it wont open, I am at a loss what to do next as it seems that I have to pay more money for an upgrade, is that the only solution? Also by what I have read it may not work anyway. HELP please ( not computer minded person hence owning a mac)
