I received my copy of Dictate a few days ago and immediately installed it on my laptop which is a MacBook Pro, 2.2 GHz with 4 GB of RAM and everything is working very well! My upcoming hand surgery had me worried. As a college professor, I do plenty of writing, and had really dreaded the prospect of being one-handed for six weeks to two months. On January 2, 2008, 26 days before starting my final student internship, I had emergency laser surgery for a retinal tear in my left eye. My internship started, and I still had debris in my left eye that caused a glazing effect and hindered work because of the glare from the screen. iListen 1.8 recognition accuracy is great. After reading a single story it did 97%, and after a day of dictating is better than 98%. It recognises new vocabulary well. I could use it immediately both for medical dictations and for general work.

I have only been working with iListen for one month and am able to clean out my in-box every day now using my voice. I wrote to you before about changing from the Parrott XVl to the wireless xTag. I took your advice and backed up my profile then tried using the existing profile with the new microphone. I had slightly less accuracy for several hours over three days then, after using corrections each time, it was as accurate as the original microphone, and all my medical jargon is still usable. Great product, and wonderful productivity enhancer. I know some collegues who are paying for transcription services, which is really a waste. I've been using speech recognition Programs since October 1994. I used by number of applications both on the Macintosh platform and Microsoft Windows platforms.

Recently I installed iListen 1.7 and I am thoroughly satisfied with Its speed and accuracy. I used NaturallySpeaking Version 8.0 for the past couple of years reasonably successfully, but the problem was this wasn't a voice recognition system specifically designed for my favourite computer the Apple Macintosh plus OS10! That's the difference, iListen is already proving itself a truly practical aid!

I do truly appreciate the support and help that MacSpeech have given me initially! I was having some difficulty getting the program to load; but the team at MacSpeech solved the problems I was having with courtesy and professionalism (I WAS TRULY DELIGHTED AND SURPRISED BY THE LEVEL OF SUPPORT I GOT). This is what makes all the difference with a product like this! I think it is so positive that the MacSpeech team are available to all their user's and not just focused solely on the North American market! I live in the lower South Island of New Zealand; often, when you by a software product in a place like New Zealand it hasn't always been easy for me to get direct product support!

Have you ever had a long day of typing only to wake up the next morning with both hands asleep? I certainly have, and it has been both annoying and alarming. The new iListen is changing all that for me. Not only can I type in pretty much any program, but I can also correct my typing using speech the whole time. I have been trying to use some form of continuous dictation for years, starting with the other product, made by the big corporation with the big bucks. With this new release of iListen, there is just no comparison. This product is faster, more accurate, a lot easier to use, there are just no restrictions. Think about this: I've been dictating these few paragraphs using this new iListen release. Yes, there have been a few recognition errors that needed correction. But in spite of the corrections, my hands have still not touched the keyboard. I have put everything down on the page using continuous speech.

I have been using various voice dictation and voice recognition software from as far back as 1996 when Dragon Dictation software was available for the first time on the Mac. I am a disabled (multiple sclerosis) Professional Engineer who has used dictation software since its earliest days with PowerSecretary and Voice Power Pro. These "discrete" dictation programs (requiring a brief pause between words) were great in their time but, fortunately, time has moved on and the latest generation of speech recognition software is now available with the latest release of iListen.

Recognition accuracy is very high but is still dependent on a good microphone and proper positioning. There is an extensive list of commands available but I haven't used most of them. In my condition it's "use it or lose it" and I won't take advantage of these commands to control various applications until I absolutely lose control of my mouse.

I would definitely recommend this software to anyone, either able bodied or disabled. I would also suggest taking the time to complete the entire training process. And then I would regularly use the "set up my microphone" tool. It's a powerful application and, with regular use, will become one of those essential programs that everyone has.
